Lesley isn't a member of our family, instead she lived in the upstairs flat of our house when I was about 13. She knew that I would never be a bridesmaid so when she and John decided to marry they asked me to be their chief bridesmaid. She must have lived with us for about 18 months and she was great. I had such fun with her and she taught me a lot about growing up, things my mum was too embarrassed to explain. She was a nurse in the Royal Navy and John was aboard HMS Ark Royal. I forget the name of the little page boy but I do remember that once we had made friends he wouldn't let me go all afternoon. His little hand kept hold of mine all through the reception and even his parents commented on it.
